Where to begin? There is so much to say.
Let’s start with the obvious. If you’ve been to the site before, you’re noticing that things look quite a bit different around here now. Over the past few months I’ve been going through a massive rebranding process. This change was brought about for many reasons–primarily because I have experienced many changes myself over the past few years. I feel that these changes are a necessary part of my journey and growth as a photographer and as a human being, and I want everything that I do and am to be a reflection of those changes.
The change most relevant to what I do as a photographer is the way going through the experience of getting married changed the way I looked at the photography I was offering my clients. I still have children and family sessions on the books this year, and very much look forward to fulfilling those sessions (as well as future sessions) with my current and future portrait and wedding clients, but weddings and couples portraiture is going to be my primary focus going forward.
Speaking of couples portraiture, this is a great time to introduce my new approach to portrait sessions. Past portrait sessions for couples have almost exclusively been for their engagement sessions. The few sessions I have done for couples “just because” have been amazing for both myself and for the couples, and I want to focus on pursuing this direction more intently. Over the next few months you’ll see more content on the site directly related to couples photography outside of engagement sessions.
And last but certainly not least, one of the things I’m most excited about is truly making a difference. Through Wish Upon A Wedding and my self-developed concept, The Powell Project, I hope to be able to use the gift of photography to do something truly special for others. Life isn’t easy, at least it certainly hasn’t been for me, and those people who reached out along the way to offer me support, encouragement, or help in time of need made me the man I am today–and it’s time for me to give something back.
I still feel like there is so much more to say, but this is what’s important. This is a new beginning–this is my dream–and I can’t wait to start this new journey.
All the best,
